The next volume of the oldest academic yearbook presents works on various aspects of the history and culture of the Byzantine Empire. The authors focus on the ecclesiastical history of early Byzantium, the relationship of the Romans with their neighbors in the East, and various aspects of the history of Byzantine literature, painting, architecture, and applied art. In the article by R. Shukurov, an attempt is made to reconstruct, based on the few surviving sources, a possible form of the oath of allegiance to the basileus, which had to be taken by Muslim mercenaries in Byzantium.
