New series

"New series" of Vizantiyskiy Vremennik started from restoration of the edition publishing in 1947 by Stalin government.

The publication of the Byzantine Chronicle was resumed after the end of the Great Patriotic War on the instructions of the Soviet government, after an almost 20-year hiatus caused by the unfavorable internal political situation for Byzantine studies and the intensified struggle in the historians' workshop.

In the spring of 1947, the first volume of this revived academic press was published in Moscow, which accumulates the latest works of Russian Byzantine studies. Unlike the "old series", the preparation of the renewed "Byzantine Periodical" was led by a collective body — the editorial board. Academician Evgeny Alekseevich Kosminsky (1886-1959) headed the editorial board as executive editor, and it included leading representatives of the Moscow and Leningrad groups of Byzantine studies.

Volumes 1(26) - 74(99) of the magazine, published from 1947 to 2015, are commonly referred to as the "new series".
